Jacob Jeffreys was born July 28, 1832, probably in Lawrence County, Alabama, the son of William and Malinda Borden Jeffreys, and lived most of his life in Marion County, Alabama. Jacob moved to Marion County, Alabama, with his parents sometime between 1840 and 1850. Jacob married Martha Caroline Askew, born May 12, 1839 in South Carolina, daughter of Irvin Askew and Sarah (Riley?). Jacob and Martha Caroline were the parents of four children.
Jacob enlisted on May 13, 1862 as a private in Company K, 42nd Regiment of the Alabama Infantry. Jacob was captured in the Battle of Corinth, October 3-5, 1862 and was later paroled at Hatchey Creek on October 5, 1862. Jacob was captured again at the Battle of Vicksburg on July 4, 1863. After signing an oath that he would not take up arms against the United States, he was paroled on July 10, 1863.
Jacob Jeffreys was a farmer. He was also a cobbler. Granddaughter Rosa Lewis said that he made the first pair of shoes that she could remember having.
Martha Caroline died on March 4, 1902 and Jacob on October 30, 1902.
Both are buried in Cooper Cemetery, Marion County, Alabama.
